Last weekend the family and a friend helped me out in the garden. I was surprised at how much we dug out:
Top of the faithful Darthcarrt and going clockwise, we have potatoes, green tomatoes, (this sounds like that old song , But yes! we have no bananas, but I can't help that), carrots, zucchini, world champ rutabaga, and assorted parsnips, turnips, and maybe an odd radish or two, too tough to eat now. So in spite of the moose we did all right. Our cabbages and beets, not to mention caluliflower and broccoli, did not survive Cassius. But we are duly grateful for what we got. Back in Anchorage my daughter and I created a marvelous root vegetable puree: potatoes, carrots, parsnips, the enormous rutabaga, and turnips. Good stuff. Even better next day as sheperd's pie. The zucchini went into an incredible crostata, which you will find at Lidiasitaly.com by searching under crostata.
So on with life!
